Our Story
Hey. Hi. Hello there! Are ya new here? Welcome!
I’m Nicki—the patient running this herbal asylum. I’m your local foul‑mouthed delight conjuring up herbal potions and chem‑free replacements for everyday commercial products. We’re not perfect and we don’t pretend to be. I’m not the crunchy herbal mom or the perfect homesteader who’s completely self‑sufficient off the land.
I still drink cherry Coke by the case. I still use store‑bought coffee creamer because I haven’t convinced my brain to love anything else as much. I live with AuDHD and fibromyalgia (and all their wretched co‑condition friends). Sometimes I still need ibuprofen and help from a hospital.
But I am also a kitchen witch and a green goddess. I’m self‑taught in most of my knowledge and amazing in all my wild, feral glory. I’ve raised two and a quarter (bonus kid, love you, Bug) amazing human beings. I’m still here when there were times I didn’t want to be. I work to be a better version of myself every single day. I’m not in competition with anyone but myself. Period.
From tinkering with art to crafting botanical magic
When I began this journey, I wanted to make art. I didn’t know then what kind of art, so I experimented with different mediums—some I excelled at, others… not so much (thanks for supporting that wire jewelry, cringe!).
As I experimented making products I so desperately needed, I discovered my love for herbs and nature. I started foraging and growing my own ingredients and learned how to double infuse them into high‑quality oils and tinctures. Those early creations became the first Tempestuous Roots products. Today, every salve, tea blend and tincture is a labor of love—crafted by hand, free from chemicals, dyes, fragrances or petroleum.
I appreciate creative people so much. They really are the spice of life. Something handmade will always mean so much more to me and my family. I appreciate hard work. I appreciate skill. I appreciate the love and energy a product from a small business holds. Someone actually cares, and I hold that so dear.
